Why the zone code is only half the answer
Knowing you are in an RD or C-2 tells you very little on its own. What matters is the use list attached to that zone, the overlays layered on top of it, and whether the use you have in mind is permitted outright or needs a rezoning or variance. This lookup shows all three together, so you find out in a few seconds rather than after a week of reading the bylaw.
Common questions
- Where does the zoning come from?
- The municipal zoning bylaw for the address you enter. We show the zone code, the permitted and conditional use lists, and the overlays that modify the base zone, with the bylaw section each fact came from.
- Is this the same as a zoning certificate?
- No. It is a read of the bylaw as we have it recorded, useful for screening a site quickly. A zoning certificate, letter of compliance, or planner review is still what you rely on for a submission.
- Why does it say my city is not covered?
- We load zoning city by city rather than guessing at a national average. If your address resolves outside a live city we record the request and add cities based on demand — you can leave your email on the results panel.
